During my career I have been privileged to support colleagues through major events, these have included both work and personal situations from new jobs, promotions, redundancies and closures which are all life changing events.
These changes in life impact a wider circle, the person who loses their job loses their income and that affects their family. If your starting a new position you want to succeed, it may be a promotion with more money and opportunities and they may feel pressure from others, these situations and opportunities come with emotion, great joy, excitement, fear, sadness and guilt. I have also supported colleagues through weddings, births and bereavements including terminal illness, some of that support was practical, helping to plan things, ensuring things were in place and everyone was comfortable, a large part of this was emotional.
Becoming a celebrant was a natural development to me ; throughout my life I’ve always enjoyed helping others and love to be part of the joy of a wedding. creating and delivering a memorable celebration it’s very rewarding to see two people who love each other come together.
Then what could be more exciting than a naming ceremony for a new person. A whole life experience just beginning? Death is the natural end to life but it is the hardest thing to say farewell to those we love, creating a service that brings comfort in many cases celebrates the joy, memories and live is truly a great privilege.
To me becoming a celebrant has been a rewarding experience so far and I’m looking forward to conducting services in the months and years ahead…
